When I first came up with this strip-Why do you play golf? The gag line was about Bob saying a couple of things on why he played, but then dropping his Honey Do List for us all to see the real reason he played—to get out of chores at home. Sometimes the gag is on the writer. Once Louis drew the strip and sent it to me his exact words were- “this one seems to have a lot of heart-you’ll see what I mean”. Once I opened it up, I saw exactly what he meant. In fact the gag was on me. There are so many points of view in this strip, that it might be one of the very best I ever wrote and with the fewest words.

Louis is such a talented cartoonist and artist and his ability to take what I send him in put my words into pictures continues to amaze and touch me. I feel our connection is magical in that we didn’t even know each other prior to this project.

There was a movie about Ben Hogan’s life called “Follow The Sun”. The movie itself was below average, but the theme and the feeling of Ben Hogan’s life and passion for the game wasn’t. In this strip Bob and Joe play golf for many reasons, not just for the gag I wrote. I didn’t know that when I wrote it, but I know it now. I play golf for the luvv of it, and what it gives me. Golf brings me peace and joy. For me, it not about the score or beating the next guy. It’s about my learning process playing the game and taking what I learn and applying it through out my life.
